US 98 is an east-west thoroughfare that runs the width of Okaloosa and six other panhandle counties. Traffic studies show the approximately five mile section of US 98 between Josie Road (just west of the Hurlburt Field main gate) and the Santa Rosa County line accommodates more than 36 thousand drivers daily.

This project will resurface the roadway. This will result in a safer, smoother riding surface and protect the roadway from increased deterioration.

In addition to resurfacing the roadway workers will:

Much of the work will occur at night to minimize traffic impacts. No lane closures will be permitted between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. In addition, driveways and access to private property will be maintained at all times.

The project is currently slated for completion in late 2011.
